Spring is here! And when Spring arrives, so does baseball. Today is Opening Day and is my favorite time of year. The Red Sox are a buzz with David Ortiz hitting his first homerun of the season (a 425 foot shot off the right field foul pole). Nothing can beat a day at the ballpark with a hot dog and a bag of peanuts. So go to a game this year and support your team. Heck, you’ll always find some cheap eats outside the park and plus, you get to hang out with friends and people watch. I love this time of year! Go Sox.

Not that this was a surprise to anyone, but the Red Sox have surpassed last years mark at this time by about 56,000 tickets. The Red Sox front office has stated that it will offer tickets to more families and fans than to secondary ticketing (scalpers). Last Year, they sold over 2.8 million tickets. They are hoping they will surpass the 2.8 million mark this year. They have sold out a record 226 consecutive regular-season games. That is the second best in Major League history. I think Cleveland may have first place when Jacobs Field opened. New this year, will be a lottery for anyone to enter this year to get Monster seats or the Right Field Roof box. Details have not been released.

Now I’ve seen and heard everything. ESPN’s resident baseball guru, Peter Gammons, has recorded his first album. He has always had a passion for music and you can always catch him talking about his favorite music when he is talking about a Red Sox trade or any grumblings in baseball. I think that it would be quite interesting. But I have no idea what he would sing about. He considers himself a rock star, but I feel that if you make millions like he does, he can have a nice hobby like this. He has featured Bronson Arroyo, Lenny DiNardo and Jonathan Papelbon on his album and invited them to sing at Hot Stove, Cool Music. Persoanlly, I would rather have him on the mic talking about sports instead of singing lyrics to She Talks to Angels.

Manny, Manny, Manny. Here we go again. This is the 4th time in 4 years that he has asked for a trade. Not only does he want out of Boston, he feels threatened in the city of Boston. He has even put his condo up for sale for a cool 6.5 million dollars. When you make 20 million a year you can buy those sort of things. Here is what a team has to do to get him.

Manny has a no trade clause in his contract where he controls where he gets traded to. The Red Sox must make a trade offer first before he can start negotiations with the team. Plus, the Red Sox won’t just take any chopped liver either. They will have to fill a HUGE void behind David Ortiz or else he won’t get any pitches to hit. I, personally, think this is a terrible move to move him. The nation loves Manny. I mean, check out this site .

It won’t be easy to pry Manny away, but the Angels, Mets, and possibly Philly. If you haven’t heard already, The Red Sox wanted Bobby Abreu. But that all fell through. As the teams go into winter talks in Dallas, I can assure you that some fireworks will fly.

Foulke has been shut down for the rest of the season as reported by Peter Gammons. Foulke will probably undergo some sort of knee surgery and it will end his season. Not only does Boston drop to second place (1 game behind the Yankees), he was also quoted as saying,

People don’t understand there’s times when we want to be private,” he told the paper. “There’s a lot of times people come up and they get in your business. … It’s one of the reasons that for next year I am relocating. I’m moving out of the city so I can be with myself a little more.

Once again, there is unnecessary drama in the locker room as they head into Baltimore. I will be at all three games this weekend and I will take some pictures of the action.

The details of the trade would include the Devil Rays and Aubrey Huff and Mike Cameron would come to the Red Sox. Talk about a line up shake up. Will they really replace Manny’s production? This is a bold move. Kelly Shoppach would be gone along with 2 prospects from the Red Sox and Mets organizations. We’ll see what happens!

I took some pictures of the game. Jim and I were sitting in Section 74 right behind the fould pole. The pictures will definitely show that. Once the game was over, I dropped Jim off in Locust Point and drove over to Fort McHenry and take some pictures. There was a really nice schooner in the harbor sailing by. Here are the pics:

The chants of, “Let’s Go Red Sox!” were drowning out the feeble attempts by O’s fans booing. It was quite a sight. We sat right behind the left field foul pole tonight and got a great view of Manny’s outfield exploits. If there wre flowers in the outfield, Manny would pick them in between batters.

The Orioles drop to 3rd place with this loss and the AL East is restored back to normalcy. Our next game is on Sunday and I will post the pics of batting practice and players on Sunday.

I didnt get wet, but I wanted to see some good baseball. I was going to take more pics but I knew that my favorite players wouldnt be playing in the rain. Guys like John Olerud, Adam Stern, and even Alex Cora! Hey, at least the O’s fans can be proud that they beat a J.V. Red Sox team in 6 innings, that’s something to be PROUD of! So more baseball this weekend, since Jim and I bought tix for all the games, we’ll be going to them!
