Use the Retail Store and Its Price Match Policy

I bought a television a few days ago and found out that on Monday they ran a new deal that they were giving out a free $100 gift card if you spent over a certain amount of money. Well when I read this, I was a little ticked off and went to the store to get in on the deal. And there was no way I was going to bring the monster back and forth. So I asked for a price match. Most stores will allow you to get in on a deal that you missed out on by simply just asking. But there are ways to mess this up if not done correctly.

Most people will go into a store and get raving mad just because they missed out on a deal. The best thing to do is to go in calmly and ask nicely about a deal that you missed. I walked in and asked the clerk nicely and be patient because the clerks are usually first timers when coming to this kind of a transaction. They will call the manager over and they will firstly talk you out of it. Know your prices online and have all of your receipts! RECEIPTS, RECEIPTS, RECEIPTS! Can’t stress this enough!

Remember names of the people you spoke to and thank them immediately after your transaction. This will help you in future price matches. Just be sure of their policy and they can’t argue with you. This particular store had no idea that their own website had the television was $200 less than in-store! The manager had no idea! So do your research and if all else fails price match it! Usually, you have 30 days or maybe longer if they have a promotion. But you can price match giveaways, competitor prices, even their own website. So look thoroughly and be a smart shopper.

I was just talking about how much more successful you can be in negotiations by just being nice. If you come in with a positive helpful attitude, the people you are dealing with will usually return that attitude. If you come in attacking, you put people on the defensive. No one wants to be a pushover, but there is nothing wrong with coming to ameniable agreements. If you are trying to get something out of someone its never good to antagonize them: as the old saying goes: “You get more bees with sugar than vinegar”
