As I was reading this, I thought to myself, OH GOD. There is GPS there to assist you and there are instances where human instinct cannot be replaced by a camera and a computer. Well, Honda thinks it can prevent more accidents by letting loose a renegade Accord equipped with a camera and their Advanced Driver Assist System. Technically, this is a full auto-pilot system on the freeway.
There is a camera on the rear-view mirror that watches the lines on the road. I don’t know about you, but there are some stretches of road that don’t have lines. They say that the car will beep every 10 seconds to make sure you are paying attention. You just have to touch the wheel.
This is a good step forward, but there are too many factors involving computers and malfunctions. Honda would be looking at a lot of lawsuits if anything fails. We all have a little backseat driver in us, so this just won’t work right now. Overall, I think it’s pretty sweet, but there are going to be some major kinks to work out. In the meantime, I’d rather use my cellphone, eat a sub, and mess with my ipod
