On the heels of companies rolling out their national high speed cellular access, Sprint has decided upon WiMax. The future of broadband may not necessarily be the high speed cellular, but in WiMax. The range of WiMax has been tested out to be a few miles and maybe up to 15 miles depending on the transmitter. This will mean that the WiMax system that they plan to roll out will cover more area than their cellular service does. Sprint does have a deal with the Department of Defense to lay down the infrastructure, so of course they are going to get a good deal. This makes things much more interesting between Cingular and Verizon. Let the price wars begin on broadband access.
