I was searching around the web for a good price on the Canon Digital Rebel XT and came across numerous price comparison web sites. At first glance I saw low price of $799 shipped from some company I have never heard of, but what the heck so I clicked on it and found that the reader reviews for the store was 4.5/5 stars with about 3000 reviewers. I did a little more digging, because I didn’t believe the price and here is what I learned.
There are sites out there such as Froogle, Pricewatch, Pricegrabber, and MySimon that compare online retailer prices. Most of the time their data is stale and inaccurate. Most of the time, people will click the lowest price and go ahead and purchase it. There is your first mistake.
Before buying anything online from a retailer you have never heard of, do a little research on the company. Go and run a whois search on the domain name and then check out ResellerRatings.com and the Better Business Bureau to see if they have any complaints. Sometimes buying online is dangerous and we should all be a little vigilant when it comes to your money. Take an extra 15 minutes and do some research cause it could cause you months of complaining to get your money back (IF you can get it back).

Thanks Shawn for the link. Sometimes I wonder if the price engines are just listing the companies that pay them to list them or just go out and browse the web for them. I will check that out.
